The Greenville Police Department has confirmed that one officer was shot and another injured in a downtown shooting near the Hyatt in South Carolina. A suspect has been taken into custody.
According to a Facebook post by the department, the incident occurred at 12:29 p.m. on North Main Street near 233 N. Main St. during a reported assault.
The officers were transported to the hospital for treatment, and the suspect is currently in custody. The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
A witness reported that the suspect was in handcuffs when the shooting happened and was fighting with the officer, who managed to get a hold of the gun.
The officer is expected to be okay, according to reports. Several witnesses and local residents took to social media to report police activity in the area, describing the scene as 'insane' with cops flying around everywhere and roads blocked.
