The sudden death of Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen has left the community in mourning. Her husband, Stephen Bowen, has been arrested and charged with her murder.
According to records, Stephen Bowen, 40, is facing charges of premeditated murder and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Police found Nancy Metayer Bowen dead at her home during a welfare check on Wednesday, and later tracked Stephen Bowen to an apartment complex in Plantation where he was taken into custody.
The case is being investigated as a domestic violence incident, and officials have not yet released further details about the cause of death.
Nancy Metayer Bowen was a prominent community leader, first elected in 2020 and became the first Black and Haitian American woman to serve as a Coral Springs commissioner.
