California Democrat Eric Swalwell and his family received more bad news on Thursday as the Department of Justice launched an investigation into multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. At least five women, including a former congressional staffer, have accused Swalwell of misconduct spanning several years, with claims ranging from sexual assault to inappropriate messaging.

Swalwell has denied all allegations and announced his resignation from his congressional seats, as well as his bid for California governor. His wife, Brittany Watts, has deleted her social media profiles, but has yet to address the allegations.

A new poll conducted by Emerson College and Inside California Politics shows Steve Hilton leading the race for California governor, with Chad Bianco and Tom Steyer tied in second place. The controversy has reshaped the race, with nearly a quarter of voters remaining undecided.
