A 68-year-old Texas man, Gilberto Ramos, has been identified as the hiker who fell to his death from Angels Landing in Zion National Park.
The incident occurred on April 17, 2026, at around 2pm local time, when officials received reports of a hiker falling from the chained section of the trail.
Ramos' remains were recovered and handed over to the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.
The National Park Service has temporarily closed parts of the West Rim Trail, including Scout Lookout and Angels Landing, for response and recovery work.
The trail is set to reopen on April 23, after planned maintenance is completed.
The National Park Service and the Washington County Sheriff's Office are still investigating the cause of the fall.
