NBC reportedly has a plan in place for Savannah Guthrie in case of a major update on her mother's disappearance. According to an insider, a producer would tell Savannah that she's 'needed off set' if a development comes up while she's on air. This is a code word Savannah is reportedly well aware of.

The insider added that Savannah would be pulled immediately, mid-segment if necessary, and taken into an office to be told about the news at the same time another anchor reports it as a breaking story.

The news show would never have Savannah report on her mother's disappearance unless she specifically wanted to, the insider stressed.

A former FBI agent believes that Savannah's return to the 'Today' show could put pressure on Nancy's kidnappers, as her national platform keeps all eyes on the case.
