Tornado Alert: North Carolina Braces for Severe Weather

A tornado warning was issued for Cabarrus County and Mecklenburg County in North Carolina as strong storms moved through the Southeast on Monday, March 16.

According to Duke Energy's outage map, over 7,500 customers across North Carolina are without power, with 4,000 outages in the Charlotte area.

Severe weather moving through the Carolinas caused major travel disruption with hundreds of flights canceled at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

As of 11:30am on Monday, 354 flights were canceled and another 242 were delayed at Charlotte airport.

Officials are monitoring the situation as strong weather moves through the region, with potentially damaging winds expected.
