A diplomatic row has erupted between US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after Trump claimed she 'begged' for a photo opportunity at the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains.
Meloni responded with a video, saying 'Neither I nor Italy ever beg' and accusing Trump of not showing the same resolve towards the West's enemies.
The Italian government has rallied behind Meloni, with the foreign minister cancelling a planned trip to the US and the transport minister saying 'Whoever attacks Giorgia Meloni attacks all of us.'
The feud marks a striking reversal for Meloni, who had staked much of her international standing on her relationship with Trump.
