Donald Trump has blamed former President Joe Biden and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker for the death of 18-year-old Loyola college student Sheridan Gorman, who was shot dead by a 25-year-old Venezuelan migrant last Thursday.
Trump pointed the finger at their immigration policies while speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee's annual fundraising dinner in Washington, DC, on Wednesday.
The suspect, Jose Medina-Medina, crossed the border illegally in May 2023 and was released into the country.
Trump claimed that Medina-Medina was then arrested again and released again by Governor Pritzker in the sanctuary city of Chicago.
He added that it would be 'easy' for federal law enforcement to address crime in Chicago if Pritzker would invite them in.
Chicago police arrested Medina-Medina shortly after Gorman's murder, using facial recognition software to compare images from surveillance footage to U.S. Customs and Border Protection records.
