US President Donald Trump claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping will give him a 'big, fat hug' when they meet next month, after he announced that he is 'permanently opening' the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump made the claim in a Truth Social post, where he said he is opening the Strait of Hormuz, just days after he announced a naval blockade on the key trade waterway.

He also claimed that China has agreed not to send weapons to Iran, and that Chinese President Xi Jinping had 'essentially' promised not to deliver weapons.

However, China had previously termed the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a 'dangerous and irresponsible move' and asked Washington and Tehran to honour the ceasefire.

The Strait of Hormuz has remained disrupted since the beginning of the US-Israel, Iran war, and the US announced a naval blockade against Iran following failed peace talks in Islamabad.
