US President Donald Trump stated that Iran is in a state of collapse, claiming Tehran has requested the White House to open the Strait of Hormuz.
The US President made the remarks on Truth Social, without elaborating on how Iran communicated the message.
Despite weeks of fighting between the US and Israel, the Strait of Hormuz remains closed for maritime traffic, with the US blocking ships going to and from Iranian ports to squeeze Tehran of oil revenue.
Around 2,000 ships remain stranded in the region, waiting for a safe passage through the waterway.
Gulf leaders met in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to craft a response to thousands of Iranian missile and drone attacks since the US and Israel launched the war on Iran in February.
