US President Donald Trump's 1988 warning to Iran has resurfaced as he pushes for a ceasefire after four weeks of fighting.

In an interview with The Guardian, Trump said he would 'do a number on Kharg Island' if Iran attacked US ships.

Thirty-four years later, US forces struck military targets on the island, with Trump stating that the US 'destroyed everything but the oil pipelines.'

The 1988 interview resurfaced as the US sets the stage for talks with Tehran, with a 15-point peace plan sent to Iran through Pakistan.
