Donald Trump has sparked a social media backlash after claiming his late mother had a 'crush' on King Charles during a recent address commemorating America's 250th anniversary celebrations.
Trump, 79, recounted his mother's alleged admiration for the British monarch, saying she would often comment on how 'cute' he was.
However, several social media users have questioned the claim, pointing out that King Charles is younger than Trump and his mother would have had to have had a crush on him at a relatively young age.
Trump's mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, was born and raised on the Hebridean island of Lewis before emigrating to New York to pursue a vastly different lifestyle.
She became a US citizen in 1942 and passed away in 2000 at the age of 88.
