US President Donald Trump announced that US forces had attacked Kharg Island, Iran's energy lifeline, in a move aimed at disrupting the country's ability to disrupt global fuel and LPG supplies.
Located in the northern Persian Gulf, Kharg Island serves as the primary terminal for 90-95% of Iran's crude oil exports and lies near the port of Bushehr.
Trump's announcement came as the USS Tripoli, carrying thousands of Marines, was sent to the Middle East to expand military options in the region.
The deployment of the USS Tripoli, approved by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, includes additional Marines, warships, and advanced aircraft to support troops in the area.
