US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has been 'begging' for a deal with the US, despite Tehran's senior leaders saying otherwise.

During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Trump said that Iran's leaders are 'great negotiators' but 'lousy fighters', and that they have been 'begging to make a deal'.

However, Trump also urged Iran to take the 'chance' to make a deal with the US, saying that America would keep 'blowing them away' otherwise.

He also claimed that Iran had allowed 10 oil tankers to pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz as a 'present', to show that it was serious about its intentions to end the conflict.

Trump's comments come as the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, with the US and Iran at odds over a range of issues.
