British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his outrage over a security blunder that allowed the appointment of Peter Mandelson as the UK's ambassador to the US, despite failing obligatory security vetting.

Mandelson was sacked last year due to his links with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and a recent report claimed the Foreign Office had overridden the security vetting process to greenlight his appointment.

Starmer stated that he was not informed about Mandelson's failed vetting when he was appointed, which he described as 'unforgivable.'

The government has blamed Foreign Office officials, with the department's top civil servant Sir Olly Robbins being sacked for the blunder.

However, Opposition MPs have questioned the credibility of the claims that the Prime Minister was made aware of the failed vetting by the UK's security services only this week.

The House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee has summoned Olly Robbins to appear before the cross-party panel as some of his previous statements about the appointment process have been called into question.
