The UK is working on a new pilot programme to tackle its immigration crisis by paying failed asylum seekers a lump sum fee to leave the country voluntarily.
According to a report by the London Broadcasting Company, the UK Home Office will pay around £10,000 per person to families who volunteer to leave the UK within a seven-day deadline.
Families of failed asylum seekers will be paid up to £40,000 if they participate in the scheme, which is expected to save the Home Office up to £20 million a year.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that the plan is inspired by a programme in Denmark and aims to remove incentives for illegal migration to the UK.
In case families refuse to leave or obstruct their departure, they will not be eligible for the scheme and will lose support for their stay from the Home Office.
