The Iranian military has claimed to have successfully targeted and brought down a US A-10 ground attack aircraft. A video, shared by the Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai, appears to show the moment the American A-10 warplane was struck by an air defense missile fired by Iran's integrated air defense system.
According to reports, the A-10 Warthog fighter jet crashed near the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, around the same time an Air Force F-15E was reportedly shot down over Iran. The lone pilot of the A-10 was said to have been rescued.
US officials have launched a large-scale search operation for one of the two crew members aboard the F-15E that went down in Iran.
The conflict, which began more than a month ago with US-Israeli strikes on Iran that killed supreme leader Ali Khamenei, has since escalated, spreading across the Middle East, disrupting the global economy and affecting millions worldwide.
US Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the reported loss of the F-15. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said: "The president has been briefed".
