A global food initiative inspired by the Akshaya Patra Foundation has highlighted the need to combat food insecurity among US college students.

The World Food Movement, a US-based not-for-profit organisation, aims to provide hot nutritious meals to students in New York, New Jersey, Boston, and California.

Co-founder Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa cited data showing that 41% of students experience food insecurity in US college campuses.

The World Food Movement currently serves over 3,700 meals per week to students and elementary school kids in Virginia.

India's Consul General in New York Binaya Pradhan noted that the statistics point to a 'very telling' issue, and Indian-Americans should 'give back to the communities' where they live.
