Joseph 'Joe' Kent, the US National Counterterrorism Center director, has resigned in protest over President Donald Trump's decision to go to war with Iran. In his resignation letter, Kent cited pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby as the reason for the war.

Kent, a war veteran who lost his wife in a suicide bombing in Syria, expressed his discontent in a scathing letter to Trump, stating that Iran posed no imminent threat to the US and that the war was a mistake.

He also accused high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media of deploying a misinformation campaign to deceive Trump into believing that Iran was a threat.

Kent's resignation marks the first high-profile exit in discontent against Trump's decision to go to war with Iran.
