A US pilot shot down over Iran has been rescued and is now safely out of the country, a top official confirmed. The search-and-rescue operation was underway after a U.S. F-15 fighter jet was downed near the Iraqi border on Friday.

One crew member has been rescued, but the second is still missing. The rescued person's condition is unknown. The rescue operation was complicated, with a rescue jet being shot down and two Black Hawk helicopters involved in the effort being struck by nomadic tribes in Iran's mountains.
