US President Donald Trump has warned that the ongoing conflict with Iran could last for weeks, as the two nations continue to exchange strikes. The US has added forces to the region, while Iran has hit industrial and military sites across several Middle East countries.
Trump outlined four goals for the operation, including destroying Iran's missile capabilities, annihilating its Navy, preventing the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and stopping Iran from arming, funding, and directing terrorist groups outside its borders.
At least 500 Iranian civilians have been killed in US and Israeli strikes, according to the Iranian Red Crescent. The conflict has also resulted in the deaths of 31 people in Lebanon, where Israeli retaliatory strikes were carried out after the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia attacked Israel from Lebanese territory.
The US has denied reports of any US ground troops being deployed to the region, with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth saying that the war will not go as long or result in nation building as in Afghanistan and Iraq.
