A US federal judge has dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump against The Wall Street Journal, its publisher Dow Jones, and senior executives.

The suit, filed in July 2025, sought $10 billion in damages over a 2003 birthday letter allegedly sent to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

US District Judge Darrin P Gayles ruled that Trump failed to show the article was published with malicious intent.

Trump had denied writing the letter, claiming the language and style were not his, but the judge allowed him to file an amended complaint.

The Wall Street Journal had 'full confidence' in the accuracy of its reporting and will defend the case.
