At least three Iranian-flagged tankers in Asian waters were intercepted by the US military on Wednesday, as part of Washington’s ongoing blockade efforts in the Strait of Hormuz.
The vessels, including the Deep Sea supertanker, Sevin, and Dorena, were redirected away from their positions near India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
The US Navy has also instructed 31 vessels to turn around or return to port as part of the blockade against Iran.
US Central Command said the tanker Dorena is being escorted by a US Navy destroyer in the Indian Ocean after it allegedly tried to breach the blockade.
The closure of the strait has disrupted about a fifth of global oil and gas supplies, fueling a wider global energy crisis.
