The United States expressed optimism about reaching a peace deal with Iran, as the two nations discuss a possible second round of talks in Pakistan.

A Pakistani delegation arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, bearing a new message from Washington, following last weekend's abortive negotiations in Islamabad.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that further talks 'would very likely' be held in the Pakistani capital, with US Vice President JD Vance offering Iran a 'grand bargain' to end the six-week war and address the decades-old dispute over Tehran's nuclear programme.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel and the US have 'identical' goals in Iran, including the removal of enriched material and the elimination of enrichment capability.

The US has imposed a naval blockade on Iran's ports, with Washington seeking to turn the screws on Tehran. However, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported that shipping has continued from southern Iran, despite the blockade.

Iran's armed forces have threatened to shut down Red Sea trade unless Washington lifts the blockade, while US President Donald Trump has insisted that any deal must permanently bar Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
