The US State Department has ordered diplomats and US citizen embassy employees in Saudi Arabia to leave the country, marking the first 'ordered departure' since the US-Israel strikes on Iran on February 28.
The move comes as US embassies in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been targeted with drone attacks by Iran over the last eight days.
The US embassy in Riyadh was hit by a drone attack, leading to a fire in the compound, while the US embassy in Dubai was also hit by an attack on March 3.
The State Department has not officially confirmed the ordered departure, but the mandatory evacuation order is seen as a precautionary measure amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
