US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has issued a stark warning to Iran, stating that the hardest hits are yet to come from the US military. Rubio made the comments after two days of strikes across the country, which the Trump administration claims have taken out Iran's leadership and crippled its ballistic-missile program.

Rubio, who briefed members of Congress on President Donald Trump's campaign to target Iran, said the focus was to destroy the country's Navy and attack drones, as well as its ballistic missile program. He denied that regime change was the goal, stating that the US aims to prevent Iran from having ballistic missiles and drones to threaten the US.

Rubio also played down the possibility of deploying ground troops, saying the US was not currently postured for a ground invasion. However, he warned that the next phase of US military action would be 'even more punishing' on Iran than it is currently.
