US President Donald Trump has softened his stance on the Strait of Hormuz, acknowledging Iran's significant control over the critical energy route.

Trump initially threatened a forceful military response if oil flows were blocked, but recent remarks indicate a shift in his approach.

Iran has managed to restrict movement through the strait, with traffic dropping sharply since the conflict began.

Maritime data shows that many ships are avoiding the route altogether, while others are allowed through selectively.

Shipping firms remain wary, with traffic through the Strait of Hormuz dropping by as much as 90-95% since early March.

US officials admit that reopening the strait is far more complicated than expected, with Iran retaining multiple ways to disrupt shipping.

The uncertainty has pushed up oil prices, shipping and insurance costs, further tightening supply.
