US President Donald Trump announced that the US Central Command carried out strikes on Iran's crown jewel, Kharg Island, while warning Tehran against blocking the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump stated that the US executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the Middle East's history, targeting and destroying every military site on the island.
However, he chose to spare the oil infrastructure on the island, which serves as the export terminal for 90% of Iran's oil shipments.
The US President also warned that any interference with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz would prompt a reconsideration of his decision.
Additional US troops and warships are being deployed to the Middle East, with Trump stating that the US would soon begin escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz to protect them from Iranian attack.
