US Vice President JD Vance reportedly questioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's 'overly optimistic' assumptions on the conflict in West Asia during a tense phone call, Axios reported.

Vance allegedly flagged that several of Netanyahu's predictions on the war had proved far too optimistic, including the prospects of an uprising that would bring regime change.

Netanyahu had previously sold the war as 'easy' and regime change as 'likelier than it was,' a US source said, adding that Vance was 'clear-eyed' about these statements.

The US Vice President has been entrusted with steering US efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East, holding multiple phone calls with Netanyahu and meeting representatives of Gulf countries.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the conflict would be over in 'weeks, not months,' with the US expected to conclude military operations at the 'appropriate time.'
