Virgin Atlantic CEO Corneel Koster has expressed concerns over the airline's fuel reserves, citing 'limited visibility' beyond the end of May due to the ongoing jet fuel crisis caused by the Iran conflict.
The crisis has disrupted fuel supplies globally, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining choked, and Koster notes that it will take time for supply chains to stabilize and prices to return to pre-war levels.
To offset higher fuel costs, Virgin Atlantic has raised fuel surcharges on tickets, and the airline continues to see strong demand across its network, particularly for routes to the Caribbean, India, and the US.
Koster also emphasized the importance of airlines being more critical about the destinations they serve during a fuel crisis, and Virgin Atlantic will not be adding new routes amid the shortage.
