The Election Commission of India (ECI) has deployed 478 poll observers for West Bengal and transferred 19 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers ahead of the polls.
The observers will be stationed in each of the 294 assembly constituencies and will publicly share their phone numbers to hear election-related grievances from candidates, their representatives, or any voter.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to the ECI, calling the transfers arbitrary and unilateral, and requesting the ECI to refrain from adopting such measures.
