New Delhi, Union Health Minister J P Nadda informed the Rajya Sabha that ₹572.66 crore have been released to Punjab in the 2025-26 fiscal for the National Health Mission.

Public health is a state subject, and the primary responsibility of providing basic healthcare services lies with state and UT governments, Nadda said.

The funds released under the NHM are used for upgrading sub-health centres and primary health centres to deliver 12 packages of basic healthcare services, including reproductive and child health services, communicable diseases, and non-communicable diseases.

The government has taken various initiatives to improve maternal and child health services, including Janani Suraksha Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan.

Various schemes are operated to prevent and control communicable and non-communicable diseases, including National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme and National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases.

Under NHM, mechanisms exist to assess implementation and progress, with common review missions conducted regularly and financial monitoring reports submitted by states on a monthly basis.
