Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha launched fresh attacks on the AAP and the BJP raked up the issue of ‘Sheesh Mahal 2’ targeting Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday.
The AAP said it will approach Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman CP Radhakrishnan, seeking the disqualification of seven of its MPs who announced a merger with the BJP.
Sanjay Singh said that AAP will write to Rajya Sabha chairman, seeking disqualification of seven MPs under anti-defection law, reported news agency PTI.
The move came after former deputy leader of the AAP in the Upper House Raghav Chadha announced that a majority of the party’s MPs in the Rajya Sabha had decided to merge with the BJP.
“We have decided that we, 2/3rd of members belonging to the AAP in Rajya Sabha, exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge with the BJP,” Chadha told mediapersons on Friday.
He added that seven MPs had signed a letter formalising the decision, which was submitted to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Following the announcement, the lawmakers also met BJP president Nitin Nabin.
AAP considers anti-defection provisionsEarlier on Friday, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said the move would be challenged under the anti-defection provisions of the Constitution.
In a post on X, he said, “I will submit a letter to the Hon’ble Rajya Sabha Chairman, in which a demand will be made to declare Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, and Sandeep Pathak disqualified from Rajya Sabha membership for joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as this is tantamount to voluntarily relinquishing membership of their original party under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.”
