Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released its first list of 14 candidates for the upcoming Assam assembly elections. The Election Commission is expected to announce the poll dates for Assam, along with West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, on Sunday.
The list includes candidates for constituencies like Naoboicha, Dergaon, and Gohpur. In Assam, the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is aiming for a third consecutive term, while the Congress is seeking to defeat the ruling party and regain power.
The Congress has already released its second list of candidates, announcing 23 names and bringing the total tally to 65 out of 126 state assembly seats. The party has left 15 constituencies for alliance partners.
In the 2021 elections, the NDA alliance won 75 seats, with the BJP securing 60 seats. The voter turnout was 86.2 per cent, with over 2.2 crore registered voters.
