AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal expressed gratitude to the people of Punjab after the state's ruling party won a large majority of the urban local bodies in polls.

The party achieved a 'spectacular' victory in Punjab's urban areas, a key focus for the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of assembly polls due early next year.

Kejriwal used the term 'ED party' to refer to the Centre's ruling BJP, saying it had been 'wiped out'.

He claimed the ED had harassed people by conducting raids on small traders in Punjab, and the people took revenge by voting for AAP.

The AAP has blamed ED's 'misuse' by the Narendra Modi government for its leaders either defecting or being sent to jail.

The party bagged around 900 of the 1,757 wards that were counted, with the main Opposition party Congress a distant second with around 350 wards.
