The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) has severed ties with its West Bengal ally, Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), after a video emerged showing AJUP leader Humayun Kabir allegedly striking a deal with the BJP.

The video, released by the Trinamool Congress, purportedly shows Kabir mobilising Muslim voters against the ruling TMC in exchange for Rs1,000 crore.

Union home minister Amit Shah rejected the claims, saying the BJP and Kabir were 'like the North Pole and the South Pole' and could never be together.

Kabir denied the allegations, calling it a conspiracy and vowed to answer the charges in the high court.

The AIMIM's decision to end the alliance comes after the party's president, Asaduddin Owaisi, said that Kabir's revelations had shown how vulnerable Bengal's Muslims are.

Meanwhile, the president of AJUP in West Bengal, Khobayeb Amin, has quit the party citing social and religious responsibilities.
