The Lok Sabha has passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2026, recognising Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu hailed the passage of the Bill as a 'moment of honour' for the people of the state.
Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai moved the Bill, which was accepted by Speaker Om Birla following a voice vote.
MPs from most parties, including the Congress, BJP, and Samajwadi Party, expressed their support for the legislation.
However, YSR Congress Party MP Mithun Reddy opposed the bill, raising concerns over the present form of the legislation 'without the emphasis on special category status (SCS) and the Polavaram irrigation project'.
