Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the state government is considering steps to restrict access to social media platforms for children below the age of 13.
The government is working on a policy regarding the same, which could be rolled out within the next 90 days.
The move comes after neighbouring state Karnataka moved to restrict social media use for minors under 16, amid rising concerns over children's excessive screen time and exposure to unfiltered content.
Other states in India, including Goa, are also beginning to examine restrictions for young users, while globally, the debate over children and social media is gaining momentum.
