The Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution requesting the Central government to extend legal status to Amaravati, the state's capital city.

The resolution aims to amend Section-5 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, to include Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of the state.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu moved the resolution, stating that official recognition and legal protection were necessary for the comprehensive development of the state.

Naidu emphasized that Amaravati would remain the capital and would not be relocated, citing its historical significance and the support of the local farmers who donated 34,000 acres of land for the capital city project.

The government has set a target of completing major infrastructure works by 2027 and giving Amaravati a visible shape by 2028.
