Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh - The pre-feasibility report work on the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project is set to begin soon, announced Minister Ojing Tasing.

The project, which has faced opposition from the Adi community, will see PFR activities start as early as March 20, with 7 out of 21 project-affected habitations in Siang district giving their consent.

The remaining habitations are in Upper Siang district, where almost all villages have agreed to the PFR activities, except for Geku.

The government has assured that development will be inclusive, transparent, and aligned with the people's aspirations, with a focus on safeguarding environmental and community interests.

The Siang Upper Multipurpose Project is a major hydropower and flood-control initiative with an estimated capacity of around 11,000 MW, crucial for energy security, regulated river flow, water storage, flood moderation, and sustainable regional development.
