The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) chief, Yadubir Singh Rawat, has defended his organization's handling of two Mughal-era mausoleums at the Delhi Golf Club, which have been at the center of a legal battle.
Rawat stated that ASI has repeatedly written to the club, asking them not to obstruct visitors to the tombs, and that a guard is posted there to ensure access.
He also addressed the recent Madhya Pradesh High Court ruling that the Bhojshala in Dhar was a Hindu temple, citing the importance of physical evidence in such cases.
Rawat acknowledged that ASI is being drawn into dealing with more disputes over religious sites, but emphasized the need for actual excavation to determine the accuracy of findings.
He also spoke about the issue of encroachments on ASI monuments, stating that there are 414 such sites nationally and that ASI has been trying to resolve the issue.
