A special court in Assam's Nagaon district has convicted 20 out of 45 accused in the 2018 Abhi-Neel mob lynching case.

The incident took place in Karbi Anglong district on June 8, 2018, when two men, Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das, were killed by an armed mob who believed they were child abductors.

The court will pronounce the sentence on April 24, while the remaining 25 accused were acquitted due to a lack of evidence.

The victims' families expressed dissatisfaction with the acquittal of the 25 accused, calling the lack of evidence unfortunate.

The court convicted the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including murder, rioting, and obstructing a public servant.
