In a move to maintain peace and communal harmony, Assam police have arrested four office-bearers of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal over alleged vandalism during Christmas preparations. The incident occurred at St Mary's English School in Nalbari district, where decorations were damaged, and some set on fire. The accused, identified as Bhaskar Deka, Manash Jyoti Patgiri, Biju Dutta, and Nayan Talukdar, were booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned the vandalism, stating that the Assam police acted promptly and will take further action as per law. An investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events and to identify any other individuals involved. Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal activists were also accused of assaulting Hindu youths for visiting a church during Christmas in Silchar, prompting churches to scale down celebrations in the area. Despite this incident, Christmas was observed peacefully elsewhere in Assam.
