Guwahati: Several prominent politicians, including ministers and party presidents, submitted their nomination papers on Monday, the last day of filing nominations for the upcoming Assam assembly election.
Voting for the single-phased election will take place on April 9.
Among those who filed nominations were BJP ministers Ranoj Pegu, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Chandra Mohan Patowary, and Bimal Borah.
Senior cabinet minister and AGP president Atul Bora, and party colleague and minister Keshab Mahanta, filed nominations for the Bokakhat and Kaliabor seats respectively.
Congress state unit president Gaurav Gogoi filed nomination papers for the Jorhat seat, where he will face former assembly speaker and sitting BJP MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami.
Rebels who switched sides or filed nominations as independent candidates after being denied party tickets also made headlines.
