In a sudden turn of events, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Renu Chaudhary has apologized for threatening a foreign football coach in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar after a viral video sparked widespread outrage. The video shows Chaudhary confronting the coach, who has been training children at a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) park for years, over his failure to learn Hindi. Chaudhary threatened to have the park taken away if the coach did not learn the language within a month. Chaudhary's apology came after her threat drew sharp reactions on social media, with many accusing her of xenophobia. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti criticized Chaudhary's remarks, saying they could harm the reputation of Indians abroad. Bharti warned that such attitudes could lead to Indians being mistreated in foreign countries. In a message, Chaudhary expressed regret over any inconvenience or hurt caused by her actions. She emphasized that MCD parks are meant for children to play and for their coaching activities, and hoped that children would continue to do so freely in the park. Chaudhary's apology comes as a relief to the football coach, who had been subjected to Chaudhary's verbal abuse over his language skills.
