Congress MP Karthi Chidambaram has made a bold claim about former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai's decision to leave the party. Chidambaram believes that Annamalai may have only joined the BJP because Tamil superstar Rajinikanth did not launch a political outfit.

Aannamalai resigned from the BJP earlier this week and announced his own political movement, which he said would eventually turn into a political party and contest the next assembly elections in the state.

Chidambaram called Annamalai's move a 'gutsy move' and said that the former IPS officer had 'realised' that the BJP has 'very limited acceptance' in Tamil Nadu.

He also claimed that Annamalai may have joined the BJP only because Rajinikanth did not form a political party, and that he doesn't come from the Sangh Parivar and is not an ideologue in the Hindutva sense.

Annmalai's new political movement aims to bring change to the southern state and contest the next assembly elections in five years.
