Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday visited the Salt Lake stadium complex in West Bengal, where a massive football event featuring Lionel Messi turned chaotic on December 13. The stadium was locked, preventing Adhikari from entering. As a representative of the opposition, he felt a moral obligation to assess the damage to public property. Adhikari condemned the vandalism caused by disgruntled spectators, who were unable to catch a glimpse of Messi due to poor event management by the organizers and the state government. He specifically targeted West Bengal ministers Sujit Bose and Aroop Biswas, demanding their arrest. The BJP leader stated that crores of rupees were likely misused during the event and assured legal support to the fans who were arrested. State BJP president Shamik Bhattacharya also accused the Trinamool Congress party of being involved in the fiasco. In a recent development, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accepted the resignation of Sports Minister Aroop Biswas, and the state government initiated disciplinary action against senior officials, including the DGP and a deputy commissioner of police, for their alleged role in the event's mismanagement.
