Tamil Nadu leader K Annamalai has announced plans to launch his own political party after resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following days of suspense.

The former IPS officer, known as 'Singham', was upset over being replaced as the party's Tamil Nadu unit chief after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Annamalai said his decision to quit BJP was not taken in haste and that he had been discussing his resignation with the party leadership since December.

He is expected to address a press conference today to have a 'heart-to-heart conversation' with those interested in joining his new party.

Annamalai's new party plans to contest in the next assembly polls, and he has appealed to those interested in joining him to bring about a 'big change in politics'.
