The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced M Arulmurugan as its candidate for the Karaikal (South) constituency in Puducherry for the upcoming Assembly polls.
The BJP, an ally of the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) in the Union Territory, made the announcement on Sunday.
The BJP has been allotted 10 seats in the AINRC-led alliance, which has a total of 30 seats in the territorial Assembly.
The agreement between the BJP and AINRC was reached when the regional party's leaders met Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
The AINRC has been earmarked 16 seats, while the AIADMK and Lakshia Jananayaga Katchi (LJK) have been allotted two seats each.
Home Minister A Namassivayam is seeking re-election from Mannadipet as a BJP candidate, while Speaker Embalam R Selvam is seeking re-election from Manavely.
Other notable candidates include A John Kumar, a minister inducted in the AINRC-led NDA government, who has been shifted to Mudaliarpet from Kamaraj Nagar constituency.
A protest was staged by supporters of Sai J Saravanan Kumar, a former minister, who was denied a ticket, while former legislator A Baskar, who joined the BJP after quitting AIADMK, also couldn't find his name in the candidates' list.
