The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the cusp of a historic victory in West Bengal, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi declaring victory in the state.

According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP is leading in over 200 seats, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is trailing behind with a lead tally of 82.

PM Modi took to X to express his gratitude to the people of West Bengal, saying, 'The 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections will be remembered forever. People's power has prevailed and BJP's politics of good governance has triumphed.'

The BJP's lead has sent Mamata Banerjee's TMC into a panic, with the party's representatives being asked to stay at counting centres and the party questioning the 'unusually slow' counting process.
